Austin FC, H-E-B Team Up to Surprise Shoppers

To help alleviate some of the financial stresses of the holiday season and to give back to the community, Austin FC front office members and employees from Favor and H-E-B teamed up at an H-E-B location in north Austin to surprise shoppers by paying for their groceries on December 8.

Austin FC President Andy Loughnane, Sporting Director Claudio Reyna, and midfielder Daniel Pereira visited an H-E-B on North Lamar Boulevard and met with shoppers, offering to purchase the groceries in their carts.

“We had the chance to buy groceries for a family that told us that they may have had to choose between gas or groceries,” Loughnane told KVUE. “By virtue of our ability to take care of their grocery bill tonight, we know that they’ll be able to have both gas and groceries.”

In the spirit of the giving season, the organizations donated more than $10,000 to help local families in need. The event followed the opening of a brand-new, state-of-the-art mini-pitch in east Austin earlier in the week, as well as a donation of Verde Nets to Webb Middle School and the conclusion of the Fall 2021 Verde Leaders season last month.
