Austin FC Earns 3-0 Win Over D.C. United

Match Report

Goals from Will Bruin, Sebastián Driussi, and Matt Hedges spurred Austin FC to a 3-0 home victory over D.C. United on Wednesday night at Q2 Stadium. The win keeps Austin FC in the hunt for a place in the Audi 2023 MLS Cup Playoffs.

Austin started quickly and opened the scoring in the 11th minute. Driussi’s cross found Bruin, who headed the hosts in front. Driussi then doubled the advantage 10 minutes later.

The Club captain controlled a pass from Alex Ring and tucked away the chance from six yards out, netting his team-best 11th MLS goal of 2023. Driussi has recorded five goal contributions in his last six league games at Q2 Stadium.

Early in the second half, Brad Stuver came up with a key save to deny D.C.’s Christian Benteke from close range. Hedges came on as a substitute and scored Austin’s third, heading in a corner kick delivery from Emiliano Rigoni for his first goal in Verde & Black.

Austin set up shop in the closing stages and kept its sixth clean sheet of the season, in part thanks to Stuver’s eight saves on the night.
