Austin FC Draws 2-2 with St. Louis CITY SC

Match Report

Defenders Matt Hedges and Julio Cascante both scored as Austin FC drew 2-2 against St. Louis CITY SC on Saturday night at Q2 Stadium. The attendance of 20,738 marked Austin FC’s 55th consecutive MLS home sellout, extending the league’s longest active streak.

The Verde & Black hit the ground running with an intense push in the first half. Hedges, who had been an offensive threat in set pieces, scored a header from a corner kick taken by Žan Kolmanič to open the scoring in the 14th minute. The assist was Kolmanič’s first goal contribution since returning from a season-ending ACL injury he suffered in 2023. Brad Stuver made three (3) impressive saves later in the first half as St. Louis turned up the pressure.

The start of the second half saw plenty of action, with CITY SC tying the game via a penalty taken by Eduard Löwen in the 49th minute. But parity didn’t last long, as Cascante powered in Alex Ring’s cross from close range to restore Austin’s lead just two (2) minutes later.

In second half stoppage time, the visitors equalized once again through Célio Pompeu, ensuring the two (2) teams shared the points.
