Austin FC Agrees to New Contract With Ethan Finlay


Austin FC announced today the Club agreed to a new contract with midfielder Ethan Finlay. The deal includes one (1) guaranteed year through the end of the 2024 season, with an additional option for the 2025 season.

“My family and I love being part of this Club and this community,” said Finlay. “I believe the organization has a lot of potential and I’m excited to be a part of our continued growth moving forward.”

During the 2022 and 2023 MLS seasons with Austin FC, Finlay appeared in all 71 of the team’s regular season and playoff matches, making 43 starts. The winger has tallied 11 goals and 10 assists across all competitions in Verde & Black. In 2023, Finlay ranked fourth among Austin players with nine (9) goal contributions in league play.

“Ethan is an exemplary professional who demonstrates his quality on the pitch and his character off it every day,” said Austin FC Sporting Director Rodolfo Borrell. “We’re happy to have him remain a member of the Austin FC family.”


Before joining the Verde & Black in December 2021, Finlay played five-and-a-half seasons with Columbus Crew and four-and-a-half seasons with Minnesota United FC. He was an MLS All-Star and selected to the MLS Best XI in 2015, and made three (3) career appearances for the United States Men’s National Team.

Finlay is a graduate of Creighton University, where he started 79 of 79 matches and scored 43 goals during his four-year collegiate career. He led the Bluejays to the program’s first NCAA College Cup appearance in nine (9) years during his senior year in 2011, and was also named a MAC Hermann Trophy finalist and twice Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year.
