The Verde & Black opened play in the Coachella Valley Invitational on Wednesday, facing off against Chicago Fire FC. It was the fourth overall match of the team's 2024 preseason presented by St. David's HealthCare.
Just before halftime, Sebastián Driussi appeared to have been fouled in the box, but Austin FC were surprisingly not awarded a penalty. Brad Stuver made two quality saves in the second half, until Chicago eventually broke the deadlock through draftee Laurence Wootton.
Wootton's goal proved to be the winner as the match ended 1-0. Austin is back in CVI action on Sunday at noon CT/10 a.m. PT vs. LA Galaxy. Fans can watch that game live on austinfc.com and the Austin FC app.
