The 2022 Major League Soccer (MLS) SuperDraft presented by adidas is set to take place on Tuesday, January 11, offering clubs around the league a chance to add young and talented players to their rosters. Ahead of the event, here’s everything you need to know about the SuperDraft and Austin FC’s role in it as dozens of prospects begin their careers in professional soccer.

What time is the SuperDraft, and how can I watch?

The SuperDraft will start at 2 p.m. CT, with a pre-show beginning at 1:30 p.m. CT, and can be streamed on the Austin FC website, MLSsoccer.com, the MLS app, youtube.com/MLS, twitter.com/MLS, and facebook.com/MLS. Only the first round will be streamed – the second and third rounds can be followed in the Draft Tracker.

Where is the SuperDraft?

The SuperDraft will take place entirely virtually.

How many rounds is the SuperDraft?

For the first time, the MLS SuperDraft will feature three rounds in 2022, down from four rounds in previous years. Only the first round will be streamed.

When will Austin FC pick?

Austin FC has the fifth pick in the first round (fifth overall), the seventh pick in the second round (35th overall), and the fifth pick of the third round (61st overall).

Who did Austin FC select in last year’s SuperDraft?

As an expansion club, Austin FC had the first overall pick in the 2021 MLS SuperDraft, and used it to select midfielder Daniel Pereira. Pereira made 25 appearances (18 starts) in his rookie season, making 16 interceptions and recording a 90 percent pass success rate. Pereira's 1,557 minutes played in 2021 ranked second-most among all players selected in last year's SuperDraft.

Austin made two more first round selected in 2021, taking defenders Freddy Kleemann and Aedan Stanley at No. 11 and No. 21, respectively.

What players are eligible to be selected?

Players eligible for selection in the 2022 SuperDraft include college seniors, Generation adidas players, and players that have waived their college eligibility by signing to play in a domestic professional league since the conclusion of the 2020 college soccer season.
