Austin FC II will be away for the third consecutive week to face Whitecaps FC 2 at BC Place on Sunday, August 20 at 4 p.m. CT.
Austin FC II Outlook
The Verde & Black avenged their only home loss of the season to Earthquakes II on Saturday, defeating San Jose 2-0 at St. Mary’s Field. Sébastien Pineau scored two goals in the second half to complete his second brace of the season and help Austin win its fourth away match in 2023.
ATXFC II will aim to continue their strong defensive form after earning back-to-back clean sheets on the road. Against Quakes II, goalkeeper Damian Las tied a season-high with six saves earning his third consecutive clean sheet and his league-leading 12th overall.
Austin could become the second team in the Western Conference to clinch a playoff berth on Sunday. To do so, the team must win in regulation and have St. Louis CITY2 earn two or fewer points. The other scenario for ATXFC II is to win in regulation and have Earthquakes II earn one or fewer points.
Whitecaps FC 2 Outlook
Whitecaps FC 2 earned a point on the road in their last outing, playing to a 0-0 draw but losing the ensuing shootout to Houston Dynamo 2.
Levonte Johnson leads the WFC2 attack. Johnson has seven goals and one assist this season and has also appeared in two Leagues Cup matches for the first team. Kamron Habibullah is another key player to watch. He is second on the team with four goals and one assist. Although Habibullah hasn’t scored since May 21, he’s attempted at least four shots in his last three matches.
WFC2 is searching for its first win in regulation since June 22 against LAFC2. Vancouver has earned just two points in its last eight contests. Sunday’s match will be the first leg of a double-header at BC Place, as Whitecaps FC will host the San Jose Earthquakes later that evening.
