Match Preview Web Away 8

Austin FC II hits the road for the team’s 14th and final away match of the season against The Town FC this Sunday for a 3:00 p.m. CT kickoff. The match will be available to watch on Apple TV – MLS Season Pass.

Austin FC II Outlook

It’s do or die for Austin FC II on MLS NEXT Pro Decision Day, when all teams will play at the same time. ATXFC II needs to win its match against The Town while also hoping North Texas SC collects one or fewer points from its game against Ventura County. That combination of results would lift Austin above the playoff line and secure the #8 seed.

Last time out, the team fell to Timbers2 in its final match at home. Jimmy Farkarlun opened scoring for the Verde & Black in the 12th minute with an assist from Peter Grogan, but Portland ultimately got two goals from Charles Ondo to win the game for the visitors.

The Verde & Black now head into their final match of the regular season with one goal in mind – to return to the playoffs for the second time in the team’s three-year history. This meeting will be the first of the season between ATXFC II and The Town FC.

The Town FC Outlook

The Town FC had a Wednesday night meeting with Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 at home, which they won 2-1 to secure second place in the Western Conference. While they have nothing to play for in terms of playoff positioning on Decision Day, they will want to maintain match fitness with a two-week break until the playoffs begin.

Julian Donnery sealed the deal for TTFC against the Whitecaps with a late goal in added time. All five of Donnery’s goals this season have come after the 80th minute, and Missael Rodríguez tallied four assists in his last four games to spur TTFC’s attack.

The Town boasts the best defense in the Western Conference, having allowed 34 goals – one fewer than ATXFC II’s 35.
