Austin FC II come off a loss at home to St. Louis City 2. City 2 found the net first to secure a short-lived lead as Jorge Alastuey found the equalizer 11 minutes later. St. Louis then regained the lead before the half. One player from each team was shown a red card in the second half where the Verde & Black were ultimately unable to tie the match Goalkeeper Charlier Farrar made multiple key saves throughout the night to deter St. Louis City 2 from furthering its lead.
The Verde & Black won in penalties over Timbers2 in their last meetup which was a 1-1 draw in Portland. Austin FC II sit just below of the playoff line, though with a tight table in the MLS NEXT Pro Western Conference, Friday’s match could provide vital points for the Verde & Black.
Portland Timbers2 Outlook
Timbers2 fell 3-1 to Houston Dynamo 2 on the road last week. Dynamo Dos managed all three of their goals before Timbers2 put its one on the board in the 85th minute thanks to Jacob Izoita, who scored his first professional goal. Forward Gage Guerra leads the team with 11 goals, showcasing his aggression on the front line.
Guerra scored Timbers2’s lone goal in the last meetup with the Verde & Black, though he was unable to convert in penalties. Portland Timbers2 find themselves in a vulnerable position as they need to win the match against Austin to avoid elimination from playoff contenttion.
