North Texas SC had previously not played an MLS NEXT Pro match since July 18th, taking an intermission to compete in the 2025 MLS NEXT Pro Invitational against Club Deportivo Tapatío which North Texas SC won 3-1.

Head coach John Gall leads the team into their 20th match of the season. With eight wins and eight losses this season North Texas sits just below Austin FC II who have seven wins and five losses.

The derby matchup offers high stakes for both teams in the second half of the season as they each fight to stay above the playoff line.
