Austin FC II earned an important road win over in-state rivals North Texas SC on Saturday night, beating NTSC 2-1 at Choctaw Stadium thanks to goals from Jorge Alastuey and Micah Burton.
The Verde & Black came out in the first half with plenty of attacking intent, tallying three shots on goal and eight total in the opening 45 minutes. After CJ Fodrey won a penalty kick, Alastuey scored from the spot to give ATXFC II the lead with his fourth goal contribution in just eight starts this season.
Austin continued to push forward on the other side of halftime. Ervin Torres hit the post before Burton rounded the NTSC goalkeeper and doubled the visitors' lead from close range.
North Texas pulled a goal back late though it wasn’t enough to halt ATXFC II’s momentum. The Verde & Black walked away with all three points for their third win of the season and a two-place jump in the MLS NEXT Pro Western Conference standings.
