A goal and an assist by Jorge Alastuey powered Austin FC II to a 2-1 away win over The Town FC on the final day of the MLS NEXT Pro regular season. Despite the victory, ATXFC II narrowly missed out on a playoff berth based on other results around the league, finishing in ninth place in the Western Conference.
Austin FC II looked cohesive applying a good balance of offensive pressure and defensive awareness in the first half. Leading in total shots the Verde & Black created multiple chances to take the lead with one eventually finding the net. Alastuey fed the ball across goal to Jimmy Farkarlun who finished the chance to give the Verde & Black the lead at the half.
The Town FC were quick to respond three minutes into the second half with a goal by Nick Fernandez to equalize. Goalkeeper Charlie Farrar made multiple key saves to keep TTFC at bay. Alastuey recaptured the lead with a beautiful curling goal from outside the box in the 80th minute, his team-high 10th of the season.
Austin saw out the win but coupled with North Texas' 4-2 win over LAFC2, ATXFC II came up just short of a place in the postseason.
