Austin FC II defeated Real Monarchs 3-0 on Friday night at Parmer Field at St. David Performance Center.
ATXFC II struck first in the 38th minute with a goal from David Rodríguez. CJ Fodrey dribbled around his defender and delivered a cross that was deflected in the box. Rodríguez collected the ball from the deflection and fired it past the Monarchs keeper to give Austin the 1-0 lead.
Rodríguez found his second goal of the night right after the break to double Austin’s lead. After applying pressure, Rodríguez won the ball just outside the visitors’ box. The Monarchs keeper came off his line, but Rodríguez escaped him with a dribble then fired it past the last Monarchs defender.
Austin's third goal of the match was scored with the help of substitutes Christo Vela and Valentin Noël. Vela delivered a cross that managed to bypass a few Monarchs defenders and reached Noël in the box, who scored his team-leading fifth goal of the season. Goalkeeper Damian Las wrapped up the game by earning his fourth clean sheet of 2023, tied for the most in MLS NEXT Pro.
