Djaka Barro scored his first goal in Verde & Black and Jorge Alastuey netted another to help steer Austin FC II to a crucial 2-1 away win over Tacoma Defiance on Friday night.
Barro put Austin on the board in the 30th minute, finishing an excellent team move off an assist from Micah Burton. Goalkeeper Charlie Farrar was up to the task with multiple key saves to keep Tacoma at bay as the first half ticked to a close.
The Verde & Black entered the second half just as hot as the first, creating multiple chances to extend their lead. Tacoma found an equalizer in the 75th minute but Alastuey restored ATXFC II's lead just one minute later with his team-high eighth goal of the season.
The victory provides three important points for Austin, moving them up to seventh place in the MLS NEXT Pro Western Conference amid a tight battle for the playoff spots.
