Austin FC II erased a one-goal deficit to earn a 1-1 road result at Portland Timbers2, then won the ensuing penalty shootout 5-4 to take home the extra point on offer.
The Verde & Black attacked the first half, leading in shots on goal and total shots but falling behind to a goal by Portland's Gage Guerra in the 21st minute.
Austin FC II found the equalizer with 13 minutes remaining in regulation. Micah Burton scored for the second game in a row, finishing an excellent cross from fellow Austin FC Academy product Ervin Torres. Guerra was then shown a late red card, and ATXFC II created a few more chances but was unable to find the winning goal. The match went to penalties, the sixth shootout this season for the Verde & Black.
Goalkeeper Charlie Farrar kept Austin FC II alive with a key save as both teams scored four of their first five attempts. In sudden death, Diego Abarca sealed the deal for the Verde & Black with a goal to move Austin FC II up two places in the MLS NEXT Pro Western Conference rankings.
