State of Play

ATXFC II brought home a point after playing in the club’s first-ever away match, drawing 1-1 against Sporting KC II on Sunday, April 2. However, Sporting KC II collected an extra point after outdueling ATXFC II on PKs, 4-2.

A couple of new faces joined the ATXFC II starting lineup in Sunday’s match as Austin FC Academy product Micah Burton and Jonathan Santillan both received the nod from Head Coach Brett Uttley. First-team loanee Alfonso Ocampo-Chávez scored the equalizer in the 72nd-minute, heading the ball into the far post via a Valentin Noël assist in the box coming off a corner-kick. Noël has tallied two goals and one assist through the first two MLS NEXT Pro matches.

First-team loanees Kipp Keller and goalkeeper Damian Las have helped ATXFC II maintain a strong defense through the first two matches. Keller and center back partner Sal Mazzaferro rank first and second in accurate passes (139 and 132) in MLSNP, while defender and captain Joe Hafferty ranks tied for first in tackles won (7). Las is tied for fourth in the league in saves with seven through two matches.

Tacoma Defiance is coming off a dominating 5-0 win in their home opener, defeating Real Monarchs. Tacoma put up four goals within the first hour of the match, with Abdoulaye Cissoko netting a brace in that timeframe. Paul Rothrock finished the match with three assists.

Friday’s match will be the first of three consecutive home contests in a 10-day span at Parmer Field at St. David’s Performance Center for Austin FC II. The two sides will face again on June 25, as ATXFC II will make the trip up to the Pacific Northwest to complete the season series.
