Austin FC II announced today the team signed free agent winger Anthony García and free agent goalkeeper Aaron Cervantes to its MLS NEXT Pro roster. García joins on a two-year guaranteed contract and Cervantes on a one-year guaranteed contract. Both players are California natives.
García, 20, spent 2023 playing in the youth system of Liga MX’s Club Santos Laguna. He scored three (3) goals in 14 appearances for Santos U-23 during the 2023/2024 Liga MX U-23 Apertura. Before arriving at Club Santos Laguna, García tallied 42 goals and 11 assists in two (2) seasons at La Sierra University, picking up 2022 Cal Pac Player of the Year honors as he set a school record for goals in a single season.
In 2021 he was selected as the Cal Pac Freshman of the Year, and he ranks fifth in conference history in goals scored.
Cervantes, 21, is a product of the LA Galaxy Academy. He signed with Orange County SC in March 2018 at age 15, making him at the time the youngest professional player in club history. Cervantes kept five (5) clean sheets in 17 USL Championship appearances across the 2019 and 2020 seasons before being transferred to Scottish powerhouse Rangers FC. He then re-joined the Galaxy organization with LA Galaxy II in 2023.
A former U.S. youth international, Cervantes made four (4) appearances for the U.S. U-17 Men’s Youth National Team, including representing the program at the 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Brazil.
