Austin FC II defeated Sporting Kansas City II 5-4 in penalties on Friday night at Parmer Field at St. David’s Performance Center, following a 2-2 draw in regulation between the teams.
Kansas City II took an early lead in the 19th minute, but the Verde and Black responded well and tied the match in the 32nd minute with a perfectly placed shot by Jimmy Farkarlun.
After the halftime break, both teams came out with intensity and speed. The visitors eventually got a second goal in the 81st minute from the penalty spot. Austin FC II once again found an answer though, as captain Alonso Ramírez equalized in the 88th minute with a low, right-footed drive to the far post.
In the ensuing shootout, ATXFC II made all five (5) of its attempts, and Austin goalkeeper Aaron Cervantes saved SKC II’s third attempt to help the Verde & Black earn an extra point.
