Minnesota initially opened scoring in the third minute, but the Verde & Black responded before the half with Jorge Alastuey putting two in the net. Minnesota came back from the half to equalize and then took the lead with a penalty kick to collect the win.
Austin FC II now turns its focus to face Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 for the first time this season. The teams only met once last season, in which Whitecaps FC 2 took the win. Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 enters the matchup on a strong run of its own. 18-year-old midfielder Yuma Tsuji won Goal of Matchweek 18 that helped Whitecaps FC 2 top Ventura County FC. The club is under new leadership this season after Rich Fagan, the Whitecaps Academy Technical Director who has been part of the organization since 2010, took over as head coach ahead of the season opener.
