With less than 10 matches left in the 2026 MLS NEXT Pro regular season, Austin FC II remain atop the table in first place of the MLS NEXT Pro Western Conference standings by three points. The Verde & Black picked up three of six available points in its last two matches, each going to penalty shootouts. Austin picked up one point against in-state rival, Houston Dynamo 2, and went on the collect the extra point against San Jose Earthquakes II last Sunday.
Austin FC II have met Sporting KC II two other times this season and claimed all six of the possible points. In a mid-season shutout, Austin tallied three goals by three different players. Most recently, the teams met at Parmer Field in June where Diego Abarca recorded two goals before the Verde & Black staved off a late comeback attempt from SKC II. Austin will look to replicate those previous results over SKC II and push further up the table.
Sporting Kansas City II Outlook
Sporting Kansas City II are coming off a two-match win streak, starting with a shutout win over Minnesota United FC 2. An early goal by Missael Rodriguez and multiple saves by goalkeeper Jack Kortkamp gave SKC II all three points at home. Kansas City then stayed home and upset Houston Dynamo 2, who sit No. 2 in the MLS NEXT Pro Western Conference standings, in a 3-2 win following an early lead by Houston.
Sporting Kansas City II only managed one goal in its last two meetups with Austin FC II but have shown increased offensive pressure in its last two matches. SKC II will look towards its final meeting of the season with Austin in hopes of furthering its current streak and finishing strong as the regular season winds down.
