Austin FC II furthered its team-record unbeaten streak to 12 with a 3-1 road win over Minnesota United FC 2 on Sunday afternoon.
Austin FC Homegrown players Ervin Torres and Micah Burton both struck inside the opening 10 minutes. Torres found the net after receiving the ball ball from Daniel Cieśla to put the Verde & Black on the board and Burton doubled the lead just three minutes later, picking up a loose ball off MNUFC2’s goalkeeping error
Goalkeeper Erik Lauta made multiple key saves to stave off Minnesota, but the Loons' Luciano Pechota notched his first career goal in the 32nd minute. Nonetheless, Austin had the answer with a goal by Erick Feliciano - the 16-year-old's third of the season - to reinstate the team’s two-goal lead at the half.
The Verde & Black shifted their efforts defensively in the second half as Minnesota attempted to spark a comeback. ATXFC II did well to defend a crowded box on multiple occastions, and Lauta stayed sharp as Austin secured a seventh straight win.
This win ties the Verde & Black with MLS NEXT Pro Western Conference table’s top team, Houston Dynamo 2. Both teams sit with 31 points though Austin has played one more game and has a slightly inferior goal difference.
