Austin FC II picked up a 1-0 home win over San Jose Earthquakes II on Sunday night at Parmer Field, thanks to a 73rd minute goal by Diego Abarca.
Austin created an offensive spark early in the first half against San Jose, tallying three shots on goal. The Earthquakes saw glimmers of chances toward the end of the first 45 minutes but neither team was able to find the net by the half.
After a triple substitution from the Verde & Black after the break, Patrick Cayelli came on to supply Abarca with a beautiful ball for the first and only goal of the night, Abarca’s seventh of the season. Despite renewed attempts by San Jose, Austin stayed solid defensively to keep Earthquakes II off the board until the final whistle, securing the Verde & Black’s 16th win of the season.
