25-Year-Old Midfielder Acquired by Austin FC via Transfer from Club Atlético Talleres in the Argentina Primera División; former Boca Juniors Midfielder, Copa Libertadores and 2020-21 Copa Diego Maradona Goal-Scorer Strengthens Austin FC Attacking Options
Austin, Texas- Austin FC, the 27th club in Major League Soccer (MLS), has announced today that Tomás Pochettino, the 25-year-old Argentine midfielder, will join the Club as a Designated Player (DP) via transfer from Club Atlético Talleres of Argentina’s Primera División. Pochettino becomes Austin FC’s second DP after fellow-South American Cecilio Domínguez was signed to a DP contract in August 2020. Terms of Pochettino’s transfer and DP agreements were not disclosed in accordance with Club policy.

Pochettino (pronounced “Toh-MAS Pot-je-TEEN-oh”) was born in Rafaela, Argentina, in 1996. His career began at Boca Juniors on the Boca Juniors U-20 team, transitioning to Boca Juniors II in 2014, and then joining the prestigious Boca Juniors first team for its Argentine Primera División winning season in 2015. Pochettino was loaned by Boca Juniors to fellow Argentina Primera Division side, Defensa y Justicia, making 51 appearances in league and cup competitions, scoring four (4) goals and providing five (5) assists.
In 2018,Boca Juniors loaned Pochettino to Club Atlético Talleres, a deal that lasted until 2019 when he was formally transferred to the Córdoba-based Club. In his tenure with Talleres, Pochettino appeared in 62 matches, scoring seven (7) goals and recording 10 assists, including one (1) goal and two (2) assists in the 2019 CONMEBOL Copa Libertadores and three (3) goals and four (4) assists in the 2020-21 Copa Diego Maradona.
