Stuver joins Austin FC after most recent stint with New York City FC
AUSTIN, Texas - Austin FC, the 27th club in Major League Soccer (MLS), announced today the signing of free agent goalkeeper Brad Stuver. Per League and Club policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed. Stuver, Austin FC’s 15th acquisition, joins Brady Scott and Andrew Tarbell as rostered goalkeepers.
“Brad fits the profile that we are looking for in a goalkeeper. He has a good presence on and off the field. He is technically solid with his feet and hands and has good command of the penalty box,” commented Claudio Reyna, Austin FC Sporting Director. “This is a great opportunity for Brad to compete for the number one spot, and we look forward to integrating him with the rest of the squad.”
Stuver (“pronounced STEW-vur”) joins Austin FC after spending the 2018-20 seasons with New York City FC, where he made 11 starts in 11 appearances across competitions. The 29-year-old made 18 appearances between 2014-17 with Columbus Crew SC, Dayton Dutch Lions and the Wilmington Hammerheads.
The native of Twinsburg, OH, was originally selected No. 32 overall in the 2013 MLS SuperDraft by the Montreal Impact. At the collegiate level, Stuver garnered a 33-27-7 record (W-L-T) in four (4) seasons at Cleveland State University, including 20 starts in 20 matches during his senior year. During this time, he posted a 11-6-3 record with a 0.86 goals against average.
