Austin FC’s first Designated Player, Cecilio Domínguez, to join Club Guaraní until end of December 2020; Domínguez will team up with Austin FC’s first-ever signing Rodney Redes in Paraguay before both move to Austin in 2021
AUSTIN, Texas– Austin FC today announced that the Club has loaned Cecilio Domínguez to Club Guaraní, located in Asunción, Paraguay, through December 2020. The 26 year-old forward was announced as Austin FC’s first Designated Player on August 24, 2020.
“We’re pleased to see Cecilio going on loan to Club Guaraní in the Paraguayan Primera División through the end of 2020,” said Austin FC Sporting Director Claudio Reyna. “Having him and Rodney Redes competing for the same club ahead of their move to Austin in 2021 is excellent. There are many benefits to this loan agreement, but obviously, it means Cecilio and Rodney will be able to start learning each other’s games, as well as maintaining match fitness before joining Austin FC in January 2021.”
Domínguez made his professional debut at 17 in 2011 with Sol de América in Paraguay’s Primera División. In 2014, he transferred to Cerro Porteño where he scored 33 league and cup goals in 81 appearances. In 2016, he transferred to Club América in Liga MX, going on to accumulate 74 league and cup appearances and 21 goals. He was also crowned Liga MX Apertura Champion in 2018. In 2019, Domínguez was signed by Argentina’s Club Atlético Independiente, becoming the club’s record signing. To date in his professional career, Domínguez has scored 73 goals in 288 Club appearances.
