Senior Vice President of Player Personnel Sean Rubio joined Austin FC as Director of Player Personnel in 2020 ahead of the team's inaugural season, and played a key role in building the team's roster from the ground up. He has over 14 years of experience in the soccer industry, including time with Toronto FC, San Jose Earthquakes, and U.S. Soccer.
While he was Toronto FC's Senior Manager of Scouting and Budget from 2016 to 2020, TFC appeared in three MLS Cup Finals, and won three trophies - MLS Cup, the Supporters' Shield, and the Canadian Championship - in 2017. The team also won Canadian Championships in 2016 and 2018 during Rubio's time in Toronto, and reached the Concacaf Champions League Final in 2018.
Rubio also contributed to San Jose's Supporters' Shield triumph in 2012, working for the Earthquakes as a video analyst from 2011 to 2014.
In his current role with Austin FC, Rubio oversees the Club's talent management department, which includes scouting, recruitment, and contract negotiations across the first team, second team, and academy. He drives recruitment efforts among the Club's global network of scouts, and is managing the construction of the first-ever Austin FC II roster. His role with the academy focuses on supporting players' development and growth, and on providing a best-in-class environment for players, coaches, and staff.
