Austin FC’s 2022 MLS regular season schedule is here, and everyone who follows the Club can look at next year’s calendar and begin to get excited. ATXFC’s 34-match schedule will see the team play each of its fellow Western Conference opponents home and away, as well as eight matches against Eastern Conference foes – none of whom the Verde & Black faced in its inaugural campaign.

Finishing above the playoff line is the aim for Josh Wolff and his squad next year, and here are a few dates to circle on the fixture list. Make sure to have your say on which home matches and away matches you're most looking forward to next season too.

Austin FC vs. Inter Miami CF (Home, March 6 at 3:00 pm CDT)

Austin took the mantle of MLS’ newcomers away from Miami (who joined the league in 2020) last year, and March 6’s matchup – which is set to air on ESPN – will mark the first-ever meeting between two of the league’s youngest clubs. IMCF’s roster has plenty of eye-catching names with experience in some of the top leagues around the world, including Gonzalo Higuain, Blaise Matuidi, and Rodolfo Pizarro.

In the second week of the 2022 season, the Florida club will come to Q2 Stadium to match up against the Verde & Black in what should be a good early test for both sides.

Austin FC vs. Seattle Sounders (Home, March 20 at 3:30 pm CDT)

Seattle has consistently been one of MLS’ best squads over the last few seasons, and played two tough contests against Austin last season. In the first, the Verde & Black battled to a scoreless draw at Lumen Field in Seattle, and it took a world-class long distance strike from Raul Ruidiaz to earn the Sounders a narrow 1-0 win at Q2 Stadium last July.

If ATXFC can find a way to get an early season victory over Seattle on the board in a game which will be nationally televised on Fox Sports 1, it could provide big boosts of momentum and confidence to kickstart the campaign.

Austin FC vs. LA Galaxy (Home, May 8 at 6:00 pm CDT)

Fans are sure to remember Austin’s 2-0 home win over the LA Galaxy last season. Summer signing Moussa Djitté opened the scoring with his first goal for the Club, and the victory began a run which saw ATXFC win 4 of its final 5 home matches in 2021.

The Galaxy have plenty of players to watch, from established stars like Javier “Chicharito” Hernández to up-and-comers like Julian Araujo and Efrain Álvarez. After missing out on the playoffs by the narrowest of margins in 2021, May 8’s visitors to Q2 Stadium should play out an entertaining game with Austin FC, which will also air on FS1.

Charlotte FC vs. Austin FC (Away, June 30 – Kickoff time TBD)

The two newest teams in MLS will meet for the first time on June 30, when the Verde & Black visit Bank of America Stadium to take on Charlotte FC. With the team’s roster still under construction, it’s tough to predict how Charlotte will look on the field in its inaugural season, but it will have had about four months to gel by the time it plays Austin FC.

It should also be interesting to see how the club’s culture has developed by that point in the season. Austin FC supporters set a high bar for any club entering the league to match in its inaugural season, but Charlotte seems primed to welcome its new top-flight club.

Atlanta United FC vs. Austin FC (Away, July 9 – Kickoff time TBD)

Atlanta United is another example of an expansion club which enjoyed tremendous fan support right from the start. In the 2021 MLSPA Player Voices Poll, MLS players rated Atlanta and Austin as the two best stadium environments in the league, and Austin will get its first-ever taste of the atmosphere at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on July 9 to wrap up a three-match road trip.

After a slow start to the 2021 season, Atlanta recovered to finish in fifth place in the Eastern Conference and reach the playoffs. The Verde & Black will look to be at their very best and pick up a statement win in one of MLS’ toughest away days for any team.

Rivalry Matches vs. FC Dallas and Houston Dynamo FC

  • Houston: April 30 (Away), July 12 (Home)
  • Dallas: June 25 (Home), July 16 (Away)

A new season means a new shot at the fan-created Copa Tejas for Austin FC. ATXFC’s first match against a fellow Texas club of the 2022 season will arrive on April 30, away to Houston Dynamo FC. The Verde & Black host FC Dallas on June 25, before playing both Texas clubs in the same week in mid-July.

Austin FC vs. Los Angeles FC (Home, August 26 at 7:00 pm CDT)

Austin’s first-ever opponent LAFC is set to visit Q2 Stadium in August 2022 after making two trips to the Texas capitol in 2021. In a match which will be nationally televised on ESPN, the Verde & Black will look to reverse its fortunes against its visitors from out west.

Austin may not have secured a win in its three meetings with LAFC last season, but former LAFC Head Coach Bob Bradley left the club to join Toronto FC during the offseason, meaning the side will likely look quite a bit different next year. ATXFC is sure to provide a stern road test for the side from Los Angeles next August.
